Four books that changed my life

In my early twenties, I worked in the art department of a major book publisher designing book covers. The design work was for all genres yet I’d get a lot of self-help books on my desk. The funny thing, I wasn’t interested in them at all at the time and I certainly didn’t need any help! I had that beautiful, positive naivety of someone who was just discovering life and thought I had it covered…

It wasn’t until many years later, things weren’t going so great and I found myself in a bookshop. Surrounded by all these great minds and certain I surely would find the answers, help and solace I needed.*

Here are 4 books that changed my life and I still refer back to, maybe they’ll influence you too -

Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway
By Susan Jeffers

Standing in the self-help section of the bookstore that lonely, complicated day, there was something about the title that touched a chord, and so began my life journey of self awareness…
Fear is a friend of mine - I’ve felt it all and now I know to be part of my medicine - to help people overcome their fears.
(This book has been around for decades and the copy I got was the 25th anniversary, so you may have read this one!)

Earth Medicine, Ancestors' Ways of Harmony for Many Moons
By Jamie Sams

Jamie writes beautifully and her teachings find a way to touch your soul. I had this book for a while but it came into its own during Covid lockdowns. I now dip into it whenever I need grounding and reconnection to a greater whole. It’s designed to follow the moon cycles with a new teaching / observation for each day.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility
By Toni Weschler

One of the best books I’ve ever read about how women’s bodies work framed in a positive light. This should be essential teaching at school - understanding our natural cycles is fundamental! I’ve had this book for over twenty years and back then would follow my cycle recorded on a piece of paper, now we have so many apps to help us. It’s worth a read to deepen your knowledge and appreciate how extraordinary our bodies are.

You Can Heal Your Life
By Louise Hay

Another classic! Louise Hay is truly inspiring from where she came from and the impact of her work. If you believe the title (or maybe think it might be true, but not sure if you can) it’s worth a read. Lots of lovely practical teachings that you can integrate into your life helping you feel empowered.

* I would always find myself in a bookstore when feeling lost and it’s taken me many years to realise the answers are always closer than I think.

And now it’s your turn to share, as I’d love to know what books have changed your life?
