All in good time

Have you ever been convinced something wasn’t for you, only to be proven wrong? How did you feel after this discovery?

Maybe like your world had grown slightly richer…

I used to think I was a plant killer, orchids in particular – they would distract me with their beauty in the supermarket, brightening my weekly shopping chore, so occasionally I would bring them home to adorn the mantelpiece. After some time, the flowers would die and they didn’t flower again - no matter how much loving care I gave them.

My next-door neighbour had loads of happy orchids on her windowsill - I assumed she had the ‘orchid touch’ the mythical green thumb I was lacking, so
I handed over my plants to a seemingly better home.

A few months later I popped over to visit and couldn’t believe it, there they were all flowering and looking amazing! With a slightly bruised ego I asked her; “what’s your secret?” Expecting to hear how she sings to them every day while spritzing them with Evian. Nope. She simply replied; ‘Time. You have to give them time.

Time… Was I really that impatient? Yes, it seemed so.

With my next grocery shop and blooming ‘experimental’ orchid in hand, I was ready to test out this time theory.

Sure enough after one cycle of flowers and many months later a new stem appeared, then buds and finally flowers – loads of them!

There was a moment last month I was reflecting on the year and feeling a little flat. (What was 2021 about?) Caught up feeling like I would never reach certain goals, I looked over and saw my orchid plant - not in bloom but still growing.

Time. You have to give yourself time. I was reminded.

Being in the heart of winter we are surrounded by this seemingly dormant state; with plants died back, trees bare, it’s clearly not a time for flowering - showing off our (seemingly effortless) work and beauty.

It’s a time for slow planning, taking it easy, conserving your energy, while getting clear in your mind;

What’s most important to you in 2022?

As I watch a new leaf slowly grow, I’m reminded everything’s working out perfectly (one of my all time favourite affirmations).

If you’re feeling a little stuck in this cycle, unsure the way ahead for the year and what direction you should take – come and try some Reiki.

It’s the best way I know to gain clarity from the chaos of our minds and lives, to energetically clear the path ahead and trust; that this year will be full of laughs, love, lessons (maybe hard ones) - but nothing you can’t handle. And you will grow as a person if you put the effort in. We reap what we sow.

Whatever you’re hoping to achieve in the coming month(s) give yourself a little longer. This is your invitation to take your time.
