What happens during a Reiki Treatment? 5 things you need to know…

So you’re thinking about trying Reiki and want to know more, like what to expect during a Reiki treatment and what you might experience?

The wonderful thing about Reiki treatments is that they’re journeys into the unknown, so each treatment and treatment sequence is different and individual to you and where you are at this moment in your life. What stays the same is the structure of the treatment and process of the sequence…

Wear comfortable clothing.

It’s important you feel comfortable and this includes what you’re wearing. You are fully clothed for the treatment and you may prefer to wear soft, loose clothing (bring along socks if your feet are sensitive as I’ll be working with your feet). You will be asked to remove any jewellery and watches. Blankets will be placed over you, keeping you warm and cosy (on warmer days a lightweight blanket will be used.)

You’ll lie on the treatment table on your back with your head and knees supported, as I begin from the top of your head working down to your feet, placing my hands on or just above your main energy centres and organs - no part of the treatment is intrusive. Once your front side has been ray-keyed, you’ll turn over, and I’ll work on your back, starting from your crown down to the soles of your feet.

Be open to all possibilities.

Keep an open mind, especially if this is your first introduction to Reiki and you’re not sure you can get your head around what’s happening and how it works (I completely understand - I was there once!) Regardless of what you think, Reiki will flow to where it is needed, however, it can be an easier experience if you’re open to new possibilities. Everything flows better when open. And a key lesson here, most of the time we have to get out of the way of our own thoughts.

We’ll have a cup of tea and chat before the treatment starts and this is a nice opportunity to get to know more about you, your medical history and your reasons for seeking Reiki.

Each treatment is different.

Whether you’ve had many treatments before or this is your first, each treatment is individual and will be different - guaranteed! You may see colours and images and feel sensations such as heat or coolness where my hands are working. It can be a deeply meditative and profoundly spiritual experience. Many feel relaxed and lighter afterwards.

Make the whole day a treat, for you!

Investing in your spiritual well-being is vital for a fulfilled life, so after the treatment try not to plan too much for the remainder of your day and if you can, take the day off! Reiki treatments are treats and just for you. It’s not often we take this much time out to focus on our needs - so acknowledge you’re worth and give yourself extra time after the treatment to do whatever you please.

You may need an early night or some gentle exercise, maybe it’s saying yes to that party and celebrating! Listen to your body.

In the days that follow help yourself with the process by staying hydrated, exercising and eating well. If you practise meditation/mindfulness or focused breathing, it’s great to continue this between your Reiki treatments.

Keep a journal each day between treatments.

As you become more aware of things, people around you and how you respond, keep note. Nice moments and difficult ones, situations that went easier than expected or conversations that teach you something new. Signs or messages that seem synchronous - record them all.

These things might seem insignificant now, but when you look back over them in time, you may very well be surprised by your clear vision and insight and how the messages have transformed! Even if you’ve never journaled, or don’t do it often now’s the time to take notes.

And remember this is a process, a journey.

Accept the place you are at now, even if it’s not where you want to be. This healing journey can be a significant turning point for your life and while the process may bring up emotions and reveal home truths that you were trying to ignore, when times are uncomfortable, remember this too will pass.

You are not alone on this journey, I’m here supporting as we work together through the Reiki sequence.
