Poles apart & what we can learn

How are you feeling at this moment?

Do you have plans and expectations for this month, perhaps more so than the others?

What are you looking forward to the most, and least?

This is one of my favourite months, partly because it’s also my birthday. When young, I had to cultivate the art of patience as I waited for what seemed like an eternity for presents. As I got older, it shifted to partying as everyone’s up for socialising at this time, and I love being around people!

I’ve been lucky to spend about half my life in both hemispheres and experience December in opposite seasons.

Adelaide in December:

  • sun

  • hot days

  • sun

  • hot nights

  • beach

  • bright, vivid, intense

  • longer days

  • rest

  • the juiciest mangoes

London in December:

  • cold

  • icy

  • snow, if lucky

  • darkness

  • freezing

  • sparkly, twinkly, snuggly

  • shorter days

  • rest

  • feeling brave facing the cold

While there are many differences at this seasonal solstice shift, there are similarities and something I’ve noticed common in both - and therefore our greatest opportunity as a whole - is the time to slow down from work and our day-to-day routines.

My body and brain shift into a more relaxed state this month, and as I’ve learnt over the years, it's pointless fighting it.

Can you relate?

Maybe that’s also one of the reasons I love this month!

If you haven’t already, plan some space this month to switch off from work and your usual schedule. Embrace activities that nourish your spirit, and enjoy the time out, allowing your body to recharge however that is for you.

And the greatest gift?

Well, besides being relaxed - the insight you’ll discover about yourself, your direction, your true needs and your wants.

What more could you ask for?
